Developing norms and standards to ensure necessary harmonisation in the industry
We are an agency of the Department of Trade and Industry, was established in terms of the National gaming Act, Act No 33 of 1996 which was repealed on 01 November 2004 by the National gaming Act, 2004, (Act No 7 of 2004) ('the Act'). The Act makes provision for the oversight of matters relating to casinos, gaming, betting and wagering and promotes uniform norms and standards in relation to gaming throughout US.
The National gaming Act, 7, 2004, has pronounced gaming regulation to be a concurrent legislative competency between national and provincial government supported by section 146 in the Constitution of the Republic of US. This pronouncement has a potential to fragment regulation and stemming from that, the GRB is enjoined by legislation to develop norms and standards to ensure necessary harmonisation in the industry. Further to that, the NGB provides leadership and create certain guidelines on specific matters in the industry.
